With six etched plates by Ethel King Martin, each with captioned tissue-guard. 8vo (230 mm); xii, [100] pp. Original brown cloth spine over drab, paper-covered boards, white title label to spine printed in red and black, as is titlepage, top edge and tail of spine chipped. Text set within wide margins. Ex.libris Arnold and Margaret Inman, of Sedbergh, with inked inscription to pastedown dated June 1905. rubbed at extremities. Ethel King Martyn was a portrait painter, etcher and illustrator who studied under Legros at the Slade. Elected Associate of The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers in 1892 and Fellow in 1902. She exhibited at the R.A. and works are held in the British Museum. Her early etchings were influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites especially with religious subjects, and are rarely found today.
