A sealed chamber. Nine stone figures. Three places from which to witness the same event.

At Aslanlı Tepe, archaeologist Dr. Elif Arslan enters a Neolithic chamber hidden beneath a monumental enclosure. A carved pillar stands at its center, surrounded by figures that have not been scattered by collapse. They were placed deliberately and then concealed for more than ten thousand years.

From one position, the arrangement resembles a sacrifice. From another, an initiation. From a third, a community turning away from the figure at its center. Conservator Mara Voss believes the chamber may preserve one of humanity's earliest surviving narratives. Project benefactor Julian Vale is ready to announce something even larger: proof that organized belief created civilization before agriculture did.

But the evidence has already begun to shift. A figure has been moved. A field record is missing. And the photograph destined to define the discovery may show an arrangement that never truly existed.

As professional pressure closes around the excavation, Elif must decide whether the chamber records an ancient event, stages a founding myth, or teaches something more unsettling: that meaning has always depended upon where a person is permitted to stand.

The Arrangement is Book One of The First Memory, a cycle of literary archaeological mysteries about the stories humanity created before it possessed words capable of preserving them.

Where you stand determines what happened.
