Fables by the Late Mr. Gay in Two Volumes, The Third Edition, Printed for J. & P. Knapton, 1746, 8 x 5.25 , full original leather, illustrated, 8vo. In good condition. Boards show typical wear with light scuffing, rounded corners. Hinges beginning to crack exhibiting early signs of red rot. Six compartment spine with numerical gilt lettering in nice shape. Slight rubbing on raised bands. Vertical creasing. Bronson Winthrop crest bookplate. Chris Pryme, 1752 in old hand on front fly leaf. Toning and moderate offsetting to title page. Light offsetting from plates. Text blocks exhibiting typical toning with light foxing. Free of marginalia. Binding remain intact. Please see photos. Bookplate of Bronson Winthrop was an American philanthropist and lawyer with Winthrop & Stimson who was prominent in New York society during the Gilded Age. He was a member of the Knickerbocker Club, the Union Club of the City of New York, the Century Club, the Downtown Club, the Grollier Club and the University Club of New York.
