"The Face of Britain" by L. Dudley Stamp, is, to quote from the book's own write-up, " A simply written account of the physical and Economic geography of Britain, stressing the contrasts to be found within the limited area of the country, and the remarkable responses to different environments shown in the history of the development of the Scots, Welsh, and English. The author is Reader in Economic Geography in the University of London, and since 1930 has been organiser and director of the Land Utilization Survey of Britain." The book, issued for The British Council by Longmans Green & Co. as Number 5 in the monographic series, "British Life and Thought", is illustrated with twenty-four black-and-white photography and four maps. This copy - a paperback - was distributed in the U.S.A. by the British Information Services (an Agency of the British Government) , 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NYC. One photograph, of particular marine history, is of the ocean liner "Queen Elizabeth" under construction in dry dock, just before she was launched.
