The Failure of the Higher Criticism of the Old Testament. Dieser Artikel ist nicht verfügbar. The Failure of the Higher Criticism of the Old Testament

"The Failure of the Higher Criticism of the Old Testament" is a rigorous theological defense of traditional biblical scholarship against the modern analytical methods that emerged in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In this compelling work, Arthur Phillips examines the methodologies of the Higher Criticism movement, which sought to dissect the Old Testament through historical-critical lenses, often questioning the unity and divine origin of the scriptures. Phillips meticulously critiques the assumptions and conclusions of contemporary critics, arguing that their skepticism often rests on fragile foundations and speculative reasoning.

The book serves as a vital resource for understanding the historical tensions between orthodox belief and rationalist interpretation. Phillips advocates for a view of the Old Testament that recognizes its literary integrity and spiritual authority, challenging the academic trends that viewed the text primarily as a fragmented collection of human-authored documents. By addressing specific arguments regarding the Pentateuch, prophecy, and historical accuracy, Phillips provides a comprehensive response to the challenges posed by modernist theologians. "The Failure of the Higher Criticism of the Old Testament" remains a significant contribution to the field of biblical apologetics, offering insights into the defense of scripture during a transformative era of religious thought.
