This is earlier (2nd) ed. 1869, translated from French to English by J.R. Planche and with exquisite engravings by Joh Gilbert; frontis. engraving of the Marie-Catherine Baronne d'Aunoy has tissue guard; boards are not color pictorial as picture for a later ed., but stamped in gilt, as is the lettering; spine is missing but binding is firm. 607 p, most of them clean and unmarked but there is a closed tear (looks like slice with letter opener, along inner edge of p. 303; smudges on pp. 514-515; and stain on lower margin of wonderfullengraving showing a dashing Prince Cheri in horseback, confronting a dragon.
