An early edition of this dramatic play, written in poetic form, about the the Romans and Jews during the fall of Jerusalem.Written by nineteenth-century English historian and ecclesiastic, Henry Hart Milman. Born in London, he was the son of Sir Francis Milman, 1st Baronet, physician to King George III. A successful student, he went on to become Professor of Poetry at Oxford university. He later worked his way up through the ranks of religious order, to become the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral. Milman died in 1868, and is buried at St Paul's Cathedral.Bound in full calf with gilt detailing to the spine and boards, including the half title.Containing the bookplate of Edward Hodge to the front pastedown.Containing the ink signature of a previous owner to the title page. Bound in full calf with gilt detailing to the spine and boards. Externally, some shelf wear to the boards and rubbing to the spine, joints, and extremities.
