A leather bound edition of Rev H H Milman's dramatic poem, 'The Fall of Jerusalem'. The dramatic poetical work of The Rev Henry Hart Milman, 'The Fall of Jerusalem'. The Rev Henry Hart Milman, born in 1791, was a English historian. Born in London, he was the son of Sir Francis Milman, 1st Baronet, physician to King George III. A successful student, he went on to become Professor of Poetry at Oxford university. He later worked his way up through the ranks of religious order, to become the Dean of St Paul's Cathedral. Milman died in 1868, and is buried at St Paul's Cathedral. Bound by Charles Murton. Previous owners bookplate, reads Rev W W Holland. In full calf binding. Externally sound. Heavy rubbing to to the spine, resulting in the loss of gilt lettering. Spine is lifting to the head and to the tail. Rubbing also to the joint, the front and rear boards, and also to the extremities. Small amount of loss to the front and rear boards, due to rubbing. Tidemarks to the front and rear boards. Rubbing to the front pastedown and endpapers, Previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown. Binders label, to the front endpapers. Front and rear hinges are both strained, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, with the odd spot and occasional foxing throughout. Good Only. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 593E21
