Sally and Georgina are neighbours on remote farms. Sally's son is autistic and has communication and behavioural problems. Their husbands are feuding but the women remain friends. Then Georgina disappears.
When a large area of farmland is cut off from the rest of the country by an earthquake Richard West and his wife Alex and daughter Jo find their way to the Sally's farm. It is deserted except for a boy who cannot communicate. While exploring they make a gruesome discovery and find a killer is hunting them down.

Dr Robert Fisk is a New Zealand author of ten titles. His books are thrillers, often with a message or reflection on our lives. Although his settings normally reflect New Zealand scenery and social life, the Simpson Family Inheritance trilogy is also about Europe in the early 1800s. Robert has been a teacher and school principal, an Education Officer in Brunei Darussalam, a lecturer at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman and lately a teacher of English at Otago University Language Centre.
