Hardcover, in green embossed cloth, with gilt decoration. 609 pages, plus 2 pages ads. All the plates are present, and quite clean. Wear at the spine extremities and corners. Light surface rubbing. The gilt on the front board (appear to depict the USS Monitor) is fairly bright; that on the spine is somewhat age-darkened. The hinges are intact - not cracked. Age-darkening to the endpapers and page edges. Some spotting to the endpapers. Previous owners inkstamp on the front pastedown and the recto of the frontis.
