Inhaltsangabe: Feast or Famine Growing up Bohemian In Provincetown, conveys a daughters sadness as her mother slowly loses the ability to breathe and to remember, while the humorous short stories and illustrations of a loving and zany artist family are ever up-lifting. This book becomes a vehicle in which the entire family travels back in time to help their mother remember her bohemian past, and what makes this book so memorable, is that we are allowed to go there as well. With over 100 richly-colored reproductions of paintings by John Whorf, Harry Church Whorf, Nancy Whorf and Julia herself, this book is a visual treasure. Anyone who loves the arts, Provincetown, and is painfully aware of the trials of caring for their parents, will find this book and the stories within, both encouraging and humorous.
Über den Autor: Julia Whorf Kelly is a fourth generation American Impressionist who has been painting and exhibiting her work for over forty years. Feast or Famine- Growing up Bohemian in Provincetown is her first major book. She also has written and illustrated two children's books: A Crow In Grandma's Kitchen-(this delightfully illustrated book takes us into a warm and cozy kitchen, where we enjoy a winter day with Abigail Nancy,Grandma and her silly crow. The extraordinary friendship between a little girl and a wild bird is strengthened by the understanding that it must eventually be set free.) and -A Tree Fell in Paradise (a coloring book to help children with grief and loss) . A native of Provincetown, Massachusetts, historic art colony, Julia grew up in an environment rich in subject matter and vivid light. Encouraged from childhood by artist-mother, Nancy Whorf Kelly, her first instructor was Grandfather John Whorf, noted watercolorist. Traveling and painting throughout France, Spain, Italy, New England, and the Caribbean, some of her major exhibits include; The Mayor s Office of Cultural Affairs, Boston City Hall Show, Young Artists Presentation, Madison Square Garden, N.Y., Aerial Perspective Show, M.I.T. and numerous one woman exhibits. Julia was the curator for several museum exhibits, in both Massachusetts and Florida, that included four generations or her family s artwork. Enjoying an impressionist s view of the world, she paints directly from nature and redesigns her ideas into large formats in the studio. Powerful compositions entice the viewer to linger in her Utopian vistas. It is the excitement and passion she feels for nature, and for color against color, that give her paintings the lively quality they possess. This first major writing by Julia Whorf Kelly, brilliantly illuminates in words and artwork, the Bohemian lifestyle of an artist s family and was an endeavor of love.
