A group of 5 early French poetry pamphlet publications, bound in one volume; The complete titles & publication details follow: Fetes de Venus. Inspirations de Catulle. A Paris, Chez Pelicier, Libraire, Place du Palais-Royal. 1825, 20 pages; Conjectures sur L'Auteur de la Veillee de Venus et Sur L'Epoque a laquelle ce Poeme peut avoir ete compose par M. de Cayrol. (with the contemporary handwritten note on title after De Cayrol's name: "insere dans les memoires et la societe d'Eustiace (?) d'Abbeville annnes." Abbeville, Imprimerie de C. Paillart, Rues Des Teinturiers, 53, no date but contemporary with the first pamphlet, 15 pages; Sur La Fete Appelee La Veillee de Venus Par M. De Cayrol, Membre de l'Academie d'Amiens et de Plusieurs autres Societes Savantes. (again, (with a contemporary handwritten note, same hand, on title after De Cayrol's name, "insere dans le Memoires .Societe D'.Abbbeville 1836-1837.", Abbeville, Imprimerie d A. Boulanger, editeur du Memorial, rue des Teinturiers, 53, no date, contemporary or just after the previous work, 31 pages; Lysis, Poeme Trouve par un Jeune Grec sous les ruines du Parthenon, Et Traduit en Vers Par L'Editeur. La Veillee de Venus, Hymne Traduit en vers su le texte corrige. Grec-Francais. Latin-Francais. Joseph-Victor L*** (Le Clere) paris, Aug Delalain, Imprimeur-Libraire, rue des Mathurins Saint-Jacques, No. 5. 1814 (6) + 27 pages, numbered one side only (2 sides to a number) and finally, Hymne a Venus. (half title only, no true title page evident or accounted for in pagination) La Veillee de Venus Hymne Chante Par Les Jeunes Romaines Aux Fetes De la Deesse.; French language text and for a couple, Greek or Latin side-by-side translations; probably from the collection of Louis-Nicolas de Cayrol (1775-1859), with the ex-libris stamp of de Cayrol & also the red stamp of the Revolutionary official 'De Cayrol Sous Intendant Militaire' throughout, and others: J. L.M. Decrouy A Compiegne; also some contemporary annotations on title page, identifying authors and ownership; original paper wraps bound in to later medium green leather-covered boards, gilt spine titles; light edge, tips wear to binding; a little foxing, mostly fresh, contents in very good condition throughout; concerning the classic verses of Valerius Catullus, Roman poet (87- c. 47 B.C.) Catullus adorned all he touched, and his shorter poems are characterised by original invention and felicity of expression (Smith); an interesting and uncommon grouping, with one title listing one copy only in OCLC, unusual French publishers' imprints.
