Raised banding to spines with gilt lettering and decorations. Top edges gilt, plain endpapers. In very good conditions. Some rubbing and bumps to corners, some rubbing to leather on extremities of spines. Endpapers darkened on corners with bookplates to fronts ?William John Robertson.? Extremities worn, damp stain on front board and fly leaves browned; otherwise a very good clean ex-library copy with class no. on spine and neat label on front pastedown. Decorated by initials and by title page device. The contents of this miscellany of twenty texts in the English Garner series, include extracts from Lydgate on Harfleur and Agincourt, A Little Geste of Robin Hood, English Carols, Prefaces and Epilogues by William Caxton and religious writings. Among these are material relating to Lollardy with the Examination of an heretic priest and of Sir John Oldcastle, and a Miracle Play of the Nativity. Alfred William Pollard (1859-1944) was a distinguished bibliographer and Shakespeare textual scholar. He became Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum, was Secretary of the Bibliographical Society, 1893-1934, editor of The Library and joint author of the well known Short-Title Catalogue.
