Reseña del editor:

The fifty years since the founding of the University of Texas Press have witnessed major evolutions in the world of publishing. Computer technology has changed how we do everything, from corresponding with authors by e-mail to editing and designing books on-screen to selling them in cyberspace. University presses are pondering the future of scholarly books in a market increasingly dominated by chain bookstores, large wholesalers, and bookselling websites, while the very nature of the book itself is up for debate. Will electronic texts replace printed words on paper by 2050? One thing that has not changed in the last fifty years is our desire to publish the most outstanding books in our areas of expertise. This book presents a "best of the best" selection from the University of Texas Press' first half-century. The illustrated anniversary volume contains over 175 excerpts from classic, award-winning titles spanning all fifty years and all of our major discipline areas, along with a brief history of the press and a complete list of our books and journals.

Quinn & Davis are Booksellers of exceptional used, out of print, scarce, rare and notable First Edition books. We are an internet bookstore with our inventory listed on the Advanced Book Exchange. We exhibit and sell at book fairs and occasionally issue printed catalogs. We concentrate on notable and scholarly non-fiction books about Texas, The Early Western Movement in America, Early American History, Military History, Political History and Politics, Law and Legal History, Biographies, and The Sciences. We are currently expanding our inventory of collectible children's books. We strive to keep our data bases current so that when you inquire about or order a listed book we will have it. One of our most important considerations is the book's condition. We use the following grading system for our books. VERY FINE. (VF). The very highest grade that can be assigned to any book. A pristine copy with no defects. Has that new book 'creak' when opened. FINE. (F). This grade lacks the crispness and pristine quality of a Very Fine book. Fine allows for only a few noted defects, such as minor shelf wear or price clipping. NEAR FINE. (NF). A sub grade of Fine and is only a very small step down from Fine. All defects will be noted and described. VERY GOOD +. (VG+). A small step up from Very Good and not quite as acceptable as Near Fine. VERY GOOD. (VG). A book that is attractive, whole and has had care. A very acceptable, collectible condition. All defects such as wear and soiling are noted in the description. We list all defects and then grade the overall condition of the book. You must be 100% satisfied with the condition of the book or you may return it for a full refund.
