Full opened size: 14 in. x 9 in. Italian made "Florentine" book cover, featuring two wooden panels with applied decorative details on the outer covers, and with a mounted color portrait illustration on the front cover. The spine is brown leather with iron brads. The back cover is gilt wood with a lion design in a shield form. The inner covers are covered with a color-printed floral paper with details added in gold ink. The upper left-hand corner of the inner front cover shows a small printed label stating "Made in Italy" and with a space for numbering. These book covers were used by a reader to insure privacy when reading in a public area. This cover may have been purchased by a reader who at the same time and place purchased such a book as Lawrence"s "Lady Chatterly's Lover." Gentle wear to the leather surface of the spine.
