This is a collection of five novels by ALBION W. TOURGEE. All books were published by Fords, Howard, & Hulbert in New York. The lot is in overall Good condition - I've provided a grade and a condition summary for each book. The following five books are included: * TOINETTE - A Tale of the South (1874; Fair) * A FOOL'S ERRAND (1879; 3 pages of "Press Notices" about the book at the front; Good-) * FIGS AND THISTLES - A Romance of the Western Reserve (1879; frontispiece; publisher's catalog and Press Notices at the back; Very Good) * BRICKS WITHOUT STRAW (1880; frontispiece; publisher's catalog at the back; Very Good+) * A ROYAL GENTLEMAN (1881; illustrated; publisher's catalog at the back; Very Good- Condition: A FOOL'S ERRAND - light staining to the covers and spine; the red cloth on the spine has somewhat faded; light foxing to pages 303-306, and to the bibliography page, title page and copyright page; small, light stains on pages 173 & 174. BRICKS WITHOUT STRAW - light stains at the outer margin of pages 10-12; personal library ink stamp at the top-right corner of the front end paper. FIGS AND THISTLES - dime-sized stain spots at the top edge of pages 255 & 256. A ROYAL GENTLEMAN - name/address label affixed to front end paper; "Dec 11 '98" written in pen on rear pastedown; staining at the margins of pages 114 & 115; pages 66-81 have small foxing/stain(?) spots primarily at the bottom edge; outer edges of end papers & pastedowns are tanned. TOINETTE - mottling to the cloth on the front & back cover; light soiling to the covers and spine; crack at front hinge w/webbing exposed resulting in the front cover being shaky; occasional page foxing; old name label affixed to front pastedown.
