Original publisher's blind-stamped red cloth, lettered in gilt to spine. A trifle rubbed and marked, spine sunned. Scattered spotting. A single-volume edition of the remarkably popular memoirs of British Army officer Frederick Sleigh Roberts, first Earl Roberts (1832-1914). Roberts initially served with the East India Company Army, being awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry for his actions during the Indian rebellion. He later transferred to the British Army and fought with distinction during the Second Anglo-Afghan War, his exploits earning him widespread fame.
