Eight poems printed letterpress, along with a blind-embossed image, on white St.-Armand paper. Each poem is followed by five intaglios (2 folding) on variously-colored St.-Armand papers. They are tipped to linen which has a thin copper "spine," and then suspended by waxed twine from copper rings. Bound in cloth and handmade paper boards, blue-and-white-clouds endpapers. The original copper printing plate of a tousle-haired skull (one of the plates of the book) is mounted into the cover. In a clamshell case covered in oatmeal-colored paper and cloth, copper-colored silk, copper-wire "bands" and etchings to the spine with an etching with letterpress label inlaid to the front cover, with a covered compartment within the case containing an additional pencil-signed print pulled from the copper plate on the cover of the book. Hardcover 15 x 13 inches, 53 leaves. In fine condition, this is one of 40 copies each including one of the 40 copper plates used by the artist in his 40th year. An amazing artist s book. Laid in is the original prospectus, a biographical card for the artist, an invitation to a lecture given by the artist at Skidmore College in 2010, and an illustrated catalog of the artist s prints (with price list and press release) for a 1998 exhibition at the Marlen Gallery in NYC.
