Mounted gelatin silver photograph. Photo measures 8" x 6" and mount measures 11" x 8 ½". No photographer information. Previous owner has written "Williams, A. T. 4th of July egg race" on verso. Likely taken in the early 20th century. A 3" tear starts on the right side of the mount and affects about 1" of the photograph. Photo has light silvering. Overall good. This detailed photograph depicts a street scene in Williams, Arizona Territory during a Fourth of July celebration. This photo was taken from the Grand Canyon Hotel looking down at a large crowd of men, women and children watching a group of Native Americans in the center of the road. The previous owner believes that the photo was taken circa 1905 as the Jacob Salzman building hadn't yet sold to the Babbitt brother. This cataloguer cannot see any evidence that an egg race is taking place. There is definitely something that has grabbed the crowd's attention and there are many smiling faces seen in the photograph. This shot is great with lots of signage on the buildings and a local historian could likely point out buildings still standing Williams. A great early 20th century photograph.
