Beschreibung
A small, but important, run of GAYVOTE, the newsletter of the San Francisco Gay Democatic Club. The club was founded by gay activist Harvey Milk and others in 1976 to provide the gay community with a political voice and was instrumental in electing Milk to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978 making him the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California. Following Milk's murder by fellow supervisor Dan White, the club was renamed the Harvey Milk Gay Democratic Club and continued to publish GAYVOTE. It exists today as the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club. Although we're only offering three issues, they include the inaugural issue published in January 1978, which celebrates Milk's election win, as well as the July 1979 issue, which covers the White Knight riots that occurred following White's lenient sentence.
