Oblong octavo 5 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches - very handsomely leather bound, both boards with gilt floral roll tool borders and a red and gilt dotted outer sash and an inner red gilt rococo surround to the title. Spine in compartments with circular red and gilt inlays. Inner dentelles and silk endpapers, all edges gilt, binding edges gilt hatched. In good condition. 26 FINE HAND COLOURED PLATES - hand coloured over thin etched outlines. As follows - title (numbered 2) and letters of the alphabet (numbered 3-26) X was not included - as with an uncoloured copy found. Probably lacking the preliminary leaf (1). All the letters are FINE HAND COLOURED HISTORIATED INITIALS with gilt borders and short Biblical quotations. The initials are Biblical scenes within very ornate letters. VERY SCARCE - either a period copy in colour of the original or something created by the artists. Only one uncoloured copy found on COPAC. A very pretty volume. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 6783
