A complete 16 volume set of the Great Western Railway's 'Engine Books' from 1911 to 1946 inclusive, comprising 1911, 1914, 1917, 1919, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1925, 1926, 1928, 1929, 1932 (2 editions), 1935, 1938 and 1946. Varying numbers of pps, paper covers, in mixed condition from poor (the 1923 covers are detached and chipped) to very good. The GWR's Engine Book started life as 'Names of Engines' in 1911, the title changed to 'Great Western Railway Engines' for 1914 and to 'Great Western Railway Engines: Names, Numbers, Types and Classes' from 1917 to 1929. The 1932 editions carried the titles 'The G.W.R Engine Book' and simply 'The Engine Book' and the final title for 1938 and 1946 was 'GWR Engines. Names, Numbers, Types & Classes'. It was first compiled by A J L White of the Chief Mechanical Engineer's office at Swindon and he remained editor until 1929 when he died. Who edited the 1932 and 1935 editions is not known but in 1938 W G Chapman, the author of the 'For Boys of all Ages' series of GWR publications, took over. R B Wilson in his 'Go Great Western' missed the 1921 edition in his checklist of sale publications and, although he listed a second edition for 1938 and another edition in 1939, these do not exist. A rare chance to acquire a full set of these ground breaking booklets, the 1911 first edition is particularly hard to find, we have seen very few over the years. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 5795
