A collection of Sir Roy Strong's articles on all aspects of gardens and gardening. A mixture of old and new, the articles offer lively insights and embrace a wide cultural perspective. From "what is a garden?", Strong moves on to look at the art of gardening in relation to other arts such as embroidery, cookery, history and politics. He takes the reader to Italy, France and Spain as well as to Berkshire, Wales and Scotland.
