Genomics has become the hot soup of molecular genetic and biotechnology. The subject covers a wide area packed with huge number of tools and techniques for dissecting the genome. The book Genomics and Genetic Engineering is a helpline to the students entering into this vast arena for the first time. Genetic engineering and genomics have many common basic tools such as restriction, gene cloning, marker based screening, gene delivery and transient expression analysis. All technologies have been clustered together and discussed in three sequential chapters. Two chapters have been dedicated to the application of genetic engineering in animal and plant. A special chapter describes the regulatory and safety aspects of genome manipulation technologies. There are three key features of the book. First of all, the subject matter has been discussed in a lucid way with important points highlighted to aid students for better comprehension. Efforts have been made for a wide coverage along with in depth analysis where needed. A special section has been discussed in each chapter to increase the interest of the subject. Secondly, each chapter includes several thought provoking questions with answers that are generally not found in text books. This will increase the interest of the student and help him in better preparation for the examinations also. Third, but not the last, a handful of multiple choice questions and their answers have been provided to help students in competitive examinations. Care has been taken to minimize repetition in text and the question sections. Therefore these sections also provide additional information over the text matter.
