Tight and sturdy, this compilation was carefully photocopied and published with the goal of sharing this in-depth exploration of roses.The front cover has the mark of a damp glass beside the title. There are a few small marks on the front and back covers. The interior is unmarked. Apparently the original was published on color plates. The copies in this book are black and white. Marion McKinsey states in the Preface to New Edition: This unpretentious volume is offered only for the information it contains, and in the hope that someone will soon produce a beautiful new edition in color, that will appropriately honor the extensive sacrifices made by Ellen Willmott to accomplish the great work of art that is "The Genus Rosa.".
