Striking Vorticist-style front cover design on dust jacket, which is lacking its spine - see image. It is also fragile and damaged (e.g. closed tears) in places with some tanning. It is at least possible that the latter may be more a reflection of the type of material used. The book is structurally sound with tight binding (hence limited internal images). However, the pages are (laid paper) all quite tanned and there is foxing/marking on the book's edges, pastedowns and endpapers. The book's deep red cloth boards and spine have fared better over the passage of time, maintaining both the deep hue of their original colour and structure. On the front paste down there is a faint inscription in ink, dated Xmas 1942. Given this date, the simple message: James, 'good luck and best wishes' carries a certain poignancy. pp.228. 16mo.
