Inhaltsangabe: Paul Reps was a noted Zen writer of the seminal Zen Flesh, Zen Bones and a friend to Justin Stone. In fact, it can be said that T'ai Chi Chih was originated because of their meetings. This compilation includes playful drawings and Zen poetic expressions, wise sayings, and simple exercises designed to release one's intuitive nature.
Über den Autor: Paul Reps led a rich and varied life. Born in 1895 in Iowa where his father owned the Reps Dry Goods Company in Cedar Rapids, he ventured widely from his Midwestern roots. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1918 and worked in a New York bank before beginning his travels to India, China and Japan.
Reps studies in Buddhism led him to translate Zen and pre-Zen writings in his compilation of Zen Flesh, Zen Bones, which has been reprinted many times since it first appeared in the 1930s. In the 1940s and 1950s Reps served as an investment counselor in Los Angeles. He became well-known for his "picture poems," which appear in several of his books, most prominently in Zen Telegrams.
Reps lectured about his work at several universities, built his own house in Hawaii, and taught the world how to live simply, without the material possessions we in the 20th century seem to find essential. He died in Los Angeles at age 94 in July 1990.
