The trilogy: all three books have dust jackets, red (of different shades) cloth boards with gilt (gold) titles plus elegant/distinctive typography internally. 8vo (approx). Individually: (i) Titus Groan - first edition, second imprint, 1946* (according to dust jacket). DJ is intact but chipped in places with some closed tears (<20 mm); especially at the head and tail of the spine (fair condition). Also obvious tanning. Pale red boards. Tight binding. Internally - age-related yellowing of pages. Each chapter begins with a small, b/w chapter heading ornament. pp. 438. (ii) Gormenghast - published in 1950. DJ is intact but with some significant vertical tearing at both the head and tail of the spine; plus a horizontal closed tear towards the base (poor condition). Also obvious tanning. The shade of the cloth for the boards of this book is more of a crimson red and has largely retained its distinctive brightness - other than at the base of the spine (covering an area of 60 x 40 mm). Tight binding. Internally - age-related yellowing of pages; with more marked tanning on the preliminary and final pages. Each chapter begins with a small, b/w chapter heading ornament. pp. 453. (iii) Titus Alone - published in 1959. DJ is intact but chipped in places with some closed tears (<10 mm); especially at the head and tail of the spine (fair condition). Also obvious tanning. Carmine red boards. Tight binding. Mild internal tanning. No chapter heading ornaments but haunting b/w frontispiece (image). pp. 222.
