They are both Registered Maine Guides and Amerian Canoe Association certified coastal kayaking instructors. They have co-produced a sea kayak safety video, and are partners in a paddlesports marketing company, Powerface, Inc., based in Maine.

Shelley is the author of the Woman's Guide to Sea Kayaking (Ragged Mountain Press/McGraw-Hill, 1998) and was former sea kayak editor for Canoe & Kayak magazine.
