Guitar Practice Warmup Routines: Powerful Exercises & Technique Builders for The Advancing Guitarist

It’s Time to Make Your Guitar Practice Professional

• Want the perfect start to any practice session?

• Looking for a safe and effective way to practice without injury?

• Feel like you’re not making the most of your practice time?

Ask any professional sportsperson what they do before they train and the answer is always the same: warm up! That's true whether you’re heading to the gym or getting on stage, but especially when practicing guitar.

While everyone knows that cold workouts lead to injuries, guitarists often don’t take warmups seriously… which is a wasted opportunity when you realise that warmups can be multitasked to improve your coordination and fretboard knowledge.

The greatest guitarists always get double the benefit from their limited practice time  and now, guitar virtuoso Chris Books is here with Guitar Practice Warmup Routines to show you how to warm up safely while getting the most out of your practice time… and reducing your risk of injury.

Meaningful Guitar Warmups That Improve Your Skills and Reduce Risk of Injury

Guitar Practice Warmup Routines teaches you the best skills to work on in your warmups in a safe, musical way – the ultimate rule being that your warmup should never be more difficult than your workload.

In this ground-breaking guitar warmup book, you’ll focus on the following essentials to make you a better guitarist in double time…

Over 90 Meaningful Warmup Exercises That Go Beyond Ordinary

We’ve all seen those boring 1 2 3 4 warmup exercises on YouTube, and the truth is they don’t achieve much and are certainly not musically meaningful. In Guitar Practice Warmup Routines Chris Brooks packs in over 90 fun, developmental musical warmups that get you ready for perfect practice.

Each is taught in clear notation and TAB, along with a detailed description of how to play it and why it helps you. From Chris:

“Developing players will find this material a great source of mechanical and musical foundations, to put them in good stead for further studies. Experienced players can jump into any routine and get game-ready for the day’s work. Each routine in the book is dedicated to an objective: prime the picking hand, stretch the fretting hand, run through scales methodically, or test yourself with some wacky finger and brain twisters."

"Many of the drills are ones I created for my own practice, and a few might resemble traditional exercises taught by guitar teachers for generations. In either case, there’s a point to each drill, which I’ll highlight as we go."

There’s the option to follow Chris’ curated routines or to create your own from the exercises that most benefit your level and progression.

Includes Audio and Video

You can always expect a little bit extra from a Chris Brooks book, so along with the free audio download of every single exercise, Chris has included detailed videos of him playing every single routine in the book… so you’ll hear and see how to warmup in style!

Chris Brooks is a guitarist, educator and recording artist based in Sydney, Australia. What began as an obsession with 80s high octane lead guitar has, well, not changed at all. A former student of the Australian Institute of Music, Brooks exhibited an early penchant for guitar-driven music, whether it was the sideman shredding of Kee Marcello and Brett Garsed, or the solo-artist career paths of Vinnie Moore, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen. The obligatory eight-hour practice sessions would be fuelled by lesson material from Hot Licks and REH videos as Brooks followed the trajectory to making his own guitar music and instructional content. Releasing two solo albums, 2002's The Master Plan and 2011's The Axis of All Things, Chris has received acclaim from print and online media worldwide, including Japan where The Master Plan was included in Young Guitar magazine's 500 Essential Guitar Albums special issue, and back home in Australia where Australian Guitar magazine rated him one of the top underground guitarists. Brooks has also recorded with Yngwie Malmsteen's former vocalist Mark Boals, Australian melodic metal band LORD, toured with major label band Feeding the Addiction, and appeared on compilation albums for labels including Frontiers (Europe), Marquee Inc. (Japan) and Liquid Note Records (UK). As founder of guitarlickstore.com, Brooks has created popular guitar courses including Sweep Picking Systems for Arpeggios, Picking Systems for Pentatonic, and his most popular to date - The Yng Way, now available as a book entitled "Neoclassical Speed Strategies", published by Fundamental Changes and available on Amazon. The Yng Way has been noted by many as a leading resource on the technique of Yngwie Malmsteen. With a keen eye for the details of what makes things work on the guitar and an aversion to sleeping, Brooks is working towards a large body of educational resources and musical output.
