Philadelphia, Pennslyvania. Methodist Episcopal Book and Publishing House. 1875. First Edition. Octavo (6 1/2 x 5). [2], 3-278 pp. Illustrated frontispiece. Text illustrations. The Rev. traveled by ship from New York to California via the isthmus at Panama and landed in San Francisco. He meandered through the state, hunts and fishes with gusto, a bit skeptical of the Western outdoor experience, but nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed the Sierra mountains. There's very little God-talk and that's a plus for the reader. The book is bound in its original brown decorated cloth with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. With the bookplate Wilbur G. Downs, a world-famous naturalist an medical researcher. There's some edge wear to the binding and a bit of foxing in the text, otherwise very good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 010962
