VERY RARE gilded & embossed hardcover book of sheet music. "F. Hünten's Celebrated Instructions for the Pianoforte - Nouvelle Methode pour le Piano par François Hünten" By François Hünten. Undated, ink inscription inside book reads Christmas 1867, published in France by B.Scott's Sons (Chez les Fils de B. Schott), Mayence. Large & heavy item. Folio, 34.7 cm x 26.6 cm x 1.8 cm, Brown leather-covered spine & corners, Gilt embossed lettering on spine, Grey cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed framing on spine & corners, Marbled endpapers, no dust-jacket. 115 pages. Weight: 1.184 Kg (1184 Grams). French & English text. Undated, inscription inside reads 1867. CONTENTS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!! However, there are 2 or 3 cracks forming between pages, stitching is visible on some pages which have enlarged stitching holes. Leather on spine & corners is damaged & scuffed with some loss in places. Spine is discoloured & grubby, leather very scuffed & damaged/missing especially either end & on edges, gilt dull & worn away in parts. Cover is marked, discoloured, scuffed, bumped & scratched, edges worn, scuffed & bumped with holes in cloth binding. Corners are bumped & frayed with boards exposed & worn away there. Pastedowns & endpapers glossy, bubbling in places, discoloured round edges. Splits in between e.ps & p.downs at front & rear of book. Ink annotation dated 1867 & creasing on 1st blank page. G. Schirmer ink stamp & clear stamp indents on title page, clear indents showing through to first few pages. Some pages (very few) have smudges/marks mostly in margins, and/or light handling creases, and/or tiny edge bumps/nicks. The print from each pages is showing as a shadow on adjacent page. Pages 25/26 & 27/28 have come away from bottom stitch. Page 25/26 has tears & tiny pieces missing from bottom edge. Page 73 has indents. Small tears near spine on p. 103/104.
