The field of hair transplantation is evolving continuously. Over the last 15 years, we have at last managed to eradicate the idea that hair transplantation is an aggressive procedure that produces an artificial result. Thanks to the use of follicular unit transplantation, it has become a much less invasive technique that produces natural, undetectable and reproducible results. We often encounter patients who have not been properly informed about this technique or have even been discouraged from undergoing transplantation by their own physician. In view of the results that can be obtained, there is currently no reason not to offer, in addition to medical treatment, the possibility of hair transplantation to patients who are good candidates for the procedure and wish to improve their appearance. We hope that this review may serve as a source of objective information on the current state of hair transplantation.
