[2]pp., on a folded folio sheet, plus [1]p. subscription form, loosely laid in. Folio. Original folds. Minor soiling, light toning. Very good. The original 1882 stock prospectus, with the original laid-in subscription form for the purchase of shares in the Hansford Land and Cattle Company, a ranching operation centered in Texas and the Indian Territory (later Oklahoma) but directed and financed by Scottish capital, with headquarters in Dundee, Scotland. The prospectus is dated November 23, 1882, and details the company's properties, consisting of the consolidated land and cattle of the Canadian River Cattle Company, the Turkey Track Ranch, and the Bugbee Ranch. The fifty-three miles of company land is described, centered along the Canadian River in the Texas panhandle counties of Hutchison and Hansford. According to the prospectus, the combined ranges could accomodate 50,000 head of cattle. The subscription form is blank, but called for an investor to buy any number of shares in the company at five pounds each, with an initial deposit of ten shillings per share to be paid to the Royal Bank of Scotland. The bottom half of the form is a receipt for said investor. An exceedingly- rare Texas range cattle item; as far as we know, the only other copies of this prospectus reside at Yale and the San Antonio Public Library. OCLC 310297255.
