Engraved title page with pictorial vignettes and designs, head-piece and historiated initial. Illustrated with 587 large coats-of-arms, a few hand colored. Bound in full mottled calf with marbled endpapers, the spine with title label gilt and with gilt panel ornaments (probably late 18th century), the covers with central embossed gilt arms. "Ouurage commence par Jean Le Feron, l'an 1555. Reueu & continue insques a present. Par Claude Collier, Graueur de Monseigneur le Duc d'Orles. With two bookplates of Comte Henry Chandon de Briailles (1898-1937). The last and most important edition of this chronological collection of biographies for the 5th century to 1658. First three leaves with some ragged edges, many areas with light foxing, a few ink spots. Rather considerable rubbing, the spine especially so with damaged lower compartment, but all quite sound and presentable.
