Chicago pre-fire imprint. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Light rubbing to original cloth, else near fine in the period-looking rebinding. Interior with new endpapers, original text block is clean; text block solid and secure in attractive binding. Overall an excellent, attractive rebound copy of a very scarce publication. With clear, mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 86th Illinois Infantry was organized in Peoria in August 1862 and fought throughout the western theater and Sherman's campaign thru Georgia. As part of McCook s Brigade, its engagements included the battles of Perryville, Stone's River, Chickamauga and Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, siege of Atlanta, and battles at Jonesboro and Bentonville. The author states this work was partly written while the regiment was in the field and later reviewed prior to publication by the officers of the unit. He states that this history is also the history of their brigade partners, the 85th, 125th, and 110th Illinois, together with the 52nd Ohio and 22nd Indiana. Very nice copy of scarce Illinois regimental history; seldom offered for sale. COULTER 280: "This narrative is little more than military annals until it becomes a valid travel account of Sherman's march, filled with descriptions of the country and rich in local color.
