Prescott's History of the Conquest of Peru, complete in two volumes, 1881. Two substantial octavos in nice bright condition. Brown, fine grain cloth boards, with impressed decoration in black to front, blind to rear, gilt to spine. Some minimal bumped wear to corners and spine ends. Overall appearance is clean, bright and square. Pages block top edges dust-stained; other edges clean, with a few odd speckles. Dark green eps, the front pastedown to Vol. I having label with name and crest of Patrick Anderson, and small bookseller's label of G.G, Walmsley of Liverpool. (Laid in, a folded page from The Times from Monday, February 9th, 1931 picturing The Princes' Tour in South America). Tissue guard and Title Page in Vol I heavily foxed, Vol II very much less so. Frontis of Francisco Pizzaro (I) and Pedro de la Gasca (II) relatively lightly speckled. Contents of both volumes are otherwise exceptionally clean and bright, with modern, very legible font, which would be a pleasure to read. Extensive footnotes throughout. Vol I has xxxii + map + 469pp + 2pp ads. Vol. II has xiii + 473pp, and includes additional unpaginated facsimile of Pizzaro signatures, Appendix and Index. PLEASE SEE FIVE ACCOMPANYING IMAGES.
