Quarto. Screw bound black wrappers with "Mountain Echoes" stamped in gilt on the front wrapper. Contains 20 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2" x 4" and 2.5" and 4.5", with captions. Slight waviness and a removed photograph else very good. A handmade yearbook entitled *Mountain Echo* for Mount Carmel, a high school in Kentucky in 1939 with the owner name of Mildred Ethel Shull on the first page. The yearbook is dedicated to the principal, Miss Lela G. McConnell, who had been at the school for 15 years. Most of the pages include a decorative border with hand-colored title pages before each section of classes and administration. Additionally, photographs affixed to pages detailing the yearbook staff, students by class, and their teachers. The final pages feature clubs and sports teams followed by advertising pages. Mildred, the owner of this album, graduated in 1944 and went on to be a "homemaker" according to her obituary. Principal McConnell was the "fifth woman to ever be licensed to preach by the Methodist Church" and went on to found the Kentucky Mountain Bible College as an offshoot of Mount Carmel High School. Both institutions were religious in nature with bible study and missionary work at the forefront. She established the Kentucky Mountain Holiness Association which includes the ministries of Mount Carmel Elementary and High Schools, Kentucky Mountain Bible College, WMTC radio station, a farm, Mount Carmel Holiness Campmeeting, and churches scattered throughout the mountains.
