Inhaltsangabe: This cookbook contains more than 70 recipes that are far more than simply old family favorites. For nearly 3/4 of a century, these formulas and trade secrets were closely guarded but are now being made available to the public for the first time. This book was written by Virginia Sager Holen with the help of her husband, Merv. For years they had owned and operated the Hazel's Candy Shops that were in the major malls in Washington and Oregon. Even though the book is written by professionals it is for the amateur using original recipes that were reduced in size for home cooking. All the recipes have been tested, with step-by-step procedures recorded, using the same concept as 'painting by numbers'.
About the Author: Virginia and Merv were married in 1939 and after Pearl Harbor Merv joined the Army Air Corps. When he returned home after the war, he had been issued a 1,100 pound sugar allotment, a benefit to returning veterans. They had decided to become self-employed and their options were very limited. They considered many things and with the availability of Virginia's fathers popcorn, the sugar allotment, some savings bonds, their love of sweets and the firm determination to be entrepreneurs they decided on a candy/popcorn shop. Their first store was in Toppenish, WA and was called the Sweet Center where they started with a purchase of the KarmelKorn franchise which included a vintage copper kettle and some eguipment. In 1948 they purchased Hazel's Candies in Yakima, WA. In the early 1950's they bid on and were awared with a contract with the Camp Fire Girls for 10,000 one-pound boxes of Walnut Divinity. In 1962 they had their shop at the Seattle World's Fair and from there they opened a stores in the North Gate Mall, South Center Mall, Tacoma Mall and malls is Yakima, Tri-Cities and Portland. Virginia and Merv have worked on this book for over 7 years-cutting the recipes down so the average person can make then at home.
