Inhaltsangabe: In Heart of the Game nationally acclaimed artist Andy Jurinko has recreated baseball's most memorable era in a collection of more than 300 color paintings that celebrate the American League. It is packaged with an introductory essay recalling baseball's most beloved era as well as several feature articles.
Vom Verlag: As Robert Creamer states in his introduction to Heart of the Game, 1946 was a glorious time to be a baseball fan. "The great stars and their memorable teammates who had been in the Armed Forces were back. Ted Williams! Joe D! Stan the Man Musial! Hank Greenberg! Bobby Feller! . . . Fans poured into the ballparks, not just old fans but thousands of new ones attracted by the excitement and the joy."
In Phillipsburg, New Jersey, one of those new fans was a boy who had two passions: baseball and art. Andy Jurinko fell in love with baseball and with the diamond "heroes" whose exploits he followed on radio and in the newspapers. His father taught him to play and took him to games, but along the way Jurinko discovered that his true talent came not with a bat, but with a brush. He became an artist. In time, Jurinko’s figurative paintings were winning acclaim and so he embarked on a project to connect his two passions.
Heart of the Game is the culmination of 12 years work in which Jurinko stepped back into his youth to paint the ballplayers that captured his imagination and filled his dreams. He calls it his "portrait" of 1946 to 1960, a celebration of baseball’s Golden Age, a time when America was passionate about baseball and its stars.
Jurinko’s baseball work has been celebrated in galleries and museums across the country, and virtually every one of the original canvases reproduced in Heart of the Game have been purchased by collectors. This first volume of more than 300 images—together with eight feature articles reprinted from SPORT magazine—brings together Jurinko’s American League collection in one volume for the first time. In it, Jurinko invites you to join him on a nostalgic trip back to a time when baseball truly mattered.
