19th century stereoview on green card. Numbered and titled in the negative: "1031, Hell's Half Acre - Middle Geyser Basin." Yellowstone National Park series. F. Jay Haynes, Fargo, D. T. imprint on front of card no content on verso. Card has minor sunning and soiling and photo has minor deterioration. Overall very good. This image was taken in the 1880s when F. Jay Haynes had his studio in Fargo, Dakota Territory and was working at Yellowstone National Park. F. Jay Haynes was an accomplished photographer with a long resume. Working for the Northern Pacific Railroad, he produced numerous views for promotional purposes and also developed "one of the finest inventories of the Dakota country" while working for the Black Hills Stage Company (Mautz, p. 347). In 1882 he set up a studio in Fargo, Dakota Territory and traveled to Yellowstone to help publicize the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1883 he opened a photographic concession in Yellowstone at Mammoth Hot Springs and was known as the Park's official photographer. In 1889 Haynes moved his studio from Fargo to St Paul, Minnesota. This image depicts the Firehole River and thermal features of Hell's Half Acre in the Middle or Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. ; 4" x 7". Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 024110
