THE TRUTH THEY HIDE. THE SACRIFICE THEY ERASE. THE UNITY WE STILL DESPERATELY NEED.
America is being torn apart—but not by who you think.
A Father’s Promise. A Nation’s Forgotten Truth.
I wrote this book to honor the memory of my daughter, Rachel L. Hale, a U.S. Army firefighter.
For years, I buried myself in primary sources, census records, and suppressed facts—truths that haven't been taught in our schools for over a century. I knew the history was explosive, but through two complete rewrites and countless revisions, I struggled to find the right way to tell it.
Then, I found the spark.
I realized that to save our future, we had to see it through the eyes of those who will inherit it. I envisioned a young couple: a conservative Black woman and a liberal white man. As they fall in love, they begin to uncover this hidden history together. In that moment, I knew I finally had my story. I saw two people willing to bridge the deepest of divides to ensure a better, United America and a better world for their children. This book is my attempt to stop the manufactured division and remind us all that we are Amer-I-Cans. We are one family. United we stand, or divided we fall.
The Story We Were Never Supposed to RememberAmerica stands at a crossroads, being torn apart—but not by who you think.
When podcaster Jake Harper inherits a locked briefcase filled with forgotten Civil War letters, census records, battlefield accounts, and suppressed data, he uncovers a truth no one is supposed to say out loud: Division in America isn’t accidental. It’s engineered.
What begins as a personal investigation becomes a national awakening. As Jake and his team trace the original battle over slavery, money, and political power, they discover a pattern that stretches from the plantations of 1860 to the algorithms of today. They realize a tiny elite profits only when Americans are taught to hate each other, using statements of division to keep us in "chains" while the true history remains buried.
Through forgotten primary sources, emotional testimonies, and explosive historical revelations, The Hidden Flame of Freedom exposes:
The Power of the Few: Why the political influence of a small elite mattered more than the actual number of slaveholding households.
The Economic Lie: How poor whites were economically crushed by slave labor, not empowered by it.
The Erased Sacrifice: The stories of the widows, orphans, and amputees whose blood and sacrifice ended slavery—and why their stories were erased from our textbooks.
The Modern Industry of Division: How outrage algorithms, activist grifts, and political machines are built specifically to sell grievance.
The Shared Story: Why America’s history of shared suffering is the one story we are no longer allowed to tell.
As Jake testifies before Congress in the book’s shattering climax, he delivers the line already echoing across social media:
“A nation built on shared sacrifice cannot survive on manufactured division. Gratitude unites. Grievance sells. And it's time we stopped buying it.”
If you believe America is better than the forces profiting from our anger, this book will ignite something in you. This is the history we were never supposed to remember—and the one that just might save us.
