In 2019, I wrote the book 12 Ways to Cope With Your Latina Mom & Her Difficulties. The book resulted from years of facilitating therapy groups for Latinx individuals struggling with their mothers. Fathers were always a crucial piece in these sessions. Internalized misogyny, negative machismo attitudes, and patriarchal beliefs play significant roles in the psyche of Latina mothers (and those of women and men in general).

Having a harsh, manipulative, emotionally distant, or physically absent father also has long-term psychological effects, often called the "father-wound." Hence, in 2020 I started facilitating therapy groups around challenges with Latino dads, and this book emerged!

My goal in this guide is to help you explore your father-wound. I want to guide you in understanding how your relationship with your dad has affected your self-esteem, self-respect, and connection with others. I will assist you in getting closer to your authentic self and re-fathering (or re-parenting) yourself and your inner child. Lastly, I will help you explore the burden and gift of ending your family's intergenerational and patriarchal trauma.

Regarding the title of this project: I do not want to promote a false narrative that Latino dads are inherently "difficult" or all the same. Hence, I describe some of their behaviors and personality traits as "difficult," not who they are.
