This event is often considered to mark the beginning of the Reign of Terror in France. Written by Alphonse de Lamartine, a French author and poet, who was influential in the foundation of the French Second Republic as a statesman. Volume one is illustrated with frontispiece and nine plates. Volume two is illustrated with frontispiece and eight plates. Volume three is illustrated with frontispiece and nine plates.
