The present octavo abridged edition was published the same year as the full account, but prior to the publication of the latter's atlas. "Owing to popular demand, this abridged edition was brought out in the same year as the official account, at a considerably lower price. It was issued without the atlas volume, and the atlas plates were not incorporated into this abridgement. Binding has been expertly repaired and some of the plates have been closely cropped to the outer margins, one plate has a water stain to the top margin, otherwise a very clean and tight copy Contemporary full brown calf boards with modern calf spine with red & black title labels.
