This book, along with the History of Art in Persia (also by Perrot and Chipiez), corresponds to the fifth volume of Histoire de l'Art dans l'Antiquite and completes their volumes on Oriental art. The original versions were written in French, but this is a translation. Each section contains a history of the country, followed by the material on each one's different types of art (funerary, architecture, industrial, numismatic, etc.). This particular book was owned by Mary Frick Jacobs, a well-known Baltimore collector and one of those whose donations helped start the holdings of the Baltimore Museum of Art.
