He was one of the early officers of the Norwegian Lutheran church, and before a church edifice was built services were often held in his log house. A quiet, home-loving man, he never cared for politics, but gave all his attention to his home and farm. His death took place April 5, 1898, when he had attained the age of about 70 years. During the last five years of his life he had been a widower, his wife having died at the age of 70 years also. In addition to the three children, Daniel, Martha and Christ, who had accompanied them from Norway, they had four others, born in this country--Carrie, John, Arn and Knut. Knut Johnson, one of the best known and most popular citizens of Buffalo county, which he has served as sherifi" and county treasurer, and who is now chairman of the town board of Nelson township, was born in Modena township, this county, Sept. 29, 1866, in the pioneer log house of his parents, John and Gertrude (Davidson) Christianson. When his eyes first opened to the light of day, the parents, with their elder children had been settled on their farm in the wilderness for some eight years, and a little progress had been made in its improvement. In its further improvement and development, he himself subsequently took an active part.
