First appearing between 1754 and 1761, this History of Englandwas David Hume's magnum opus, held as the standard history of England in its day and running over one hundred editions.Hume's contribution began with Caesar's invasion and finished with the Revolution of 1688; Smollett's continued from the reign of William and Mary until the death of George II, and E. Farr and E. H. Nolan covered the accession of George III until the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Queen Victoria.David Hume (1711-1776) was a philosopher and writer of the Scottish Enlightenment. In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally very smart, with just some slight rubbing to the edges. Ownership bookplate in crushed morocco to the front pastedown of volume I.
