Map case is fair, maps are near fine. Maps 1 to 13 all present. Ex Library with the stamps of the General Staff Reference Library, Colchester Garrison on the maps 2 to 13 and case. Map 1 has the stamp for the Education Office of the 5th Division. Maps are in fine condition, minor handling marks, minor foxing on some maps. Map case is complete but has been crushed at some point. Base of case has split, and has been repaired with glue and paper along both seams. One repair has failed. Shelf wear, discolouration to top of case. Rear board has remnants of date due page. Both boards Spine is stained, and has remnants of library catalogue label. Interior of flap includes General Staff Reference Library Colchester and H M Stationery Office withdrawn stamps and remnants of catalogue label Brigadier-General Sir James Edmonds was an officer with the Royal Engineers during the late Victorian era who later worked in military intelligence and then returned to soldier prior to the First World War. He served with the British 4th Division in the field in 1914, before transferring to General Headquarters of the British Expeditionary Force where he worked as a staff officer for the remainder of the war. He was appointed deputy engineer-in-chief in 1918, and the following year assumed the directorship of the Military Branch of the Historical Section of the Committee of Imperial Defence.
