Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

The History of the Green Howards: Three Hundred Years of Service, Geoffrey Powell and John Powell — Revised and Enlarged Edition Publication: Barnsley, Leo Cooper, 2002 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 316. Condition Report: Near Fine. The volume presents exceptionally well, housed in a remarkably bright and unclipped dust-jacket that exhibits only the faintest whisper of crinkling to the extreme head of the spine. Beneath the jacket, the green cloth boards are distinctly crisp, boasting sharp, unbumped corners and gleaming gilt titles to the spine that remain completely unoxidised. The binding is decidedly tight and square, suggesting the book has scarcely been opened. Internally, the text block is uniformly bright and spotless, entirely free from foxing or blemishes, ensuring a thoroughly pristine reading experience. Catalogue Note: This 2002 edition, published by Leo Cooper under the Pen & Sword imprint, is a revised and substantially enlarged update to the original 1992 publication by Arms & Armour Press. The text expands upon the initial history to include previously uncovered insights and an extended overview of the regiment’s post-1945 decades. Accompanied by a foreword from His Majesty Harald V, King of Norway, the volume includes numerous illustrations and detailed appendices that thoroughly catalogue the regiment's lineage, battle honours, and key personnel. While this definitive regimental history is generally well-represented on the open market and relatively common to acquire, it remains an essential reference text for military historians, especially in such sharply preserved condition. Raised in 1688 during a period of profound national crisis, the Green Howards established a formidable reputation for loyalty and gallantry that would endure for over three centuries. This comprehensive history chronicles the fortunes of the distinguished Yorkshire-based regiment, closely mirroring the wider narrative of the British Army. From the grinding campaigns of the French Wars and the bitter cold of the Crimea to the global conflicts of the First and Second World Wars, and onwards through later deployments in Suez and Malaya, the regiment's exceptional battle honours are meticulously detailed. Co-authored by a father and son who both served with distinction, this authoritative account brings the story of one of Britain’s finest infantry regiments vividly up to date, offering an unparalleled inside perspective on a legacy of unwavering service.
